Diagram of the protocol. Ventilation was switched to pressure control mode using 12 cmH2O of driving pressure (DP). PEEP was increased from 5 to 10 cmH2O during 3 min. The control group (C group) remained supine along the protocol while children in the postural recruitment group (P-RM group) were turned to the left lateral position (LL) during 90 s and then to the right lateral (RL) for another 90 s, to finally reach the supine position again.
